AMERICAN INDIAN PATHS-L
Sponsored by "the People's Paths!"

The purpose of the "paths-l" mailing list is for the discussion of North American Indian and First People's issues! The topics are to be created by the subscribers, the true owners of the mailing list!

[A few suggested topics: Indian mascots and logos, stereotyping, genealogy, language, Pow Wows, politics (tribal & D.C.), share news, history, movies, music, education (schools and/or curriculums), literature, software programs, newly formed "tribes/organizations" (Yes, this topic can be discussed without personal attacks and disscusing same should not be taken personnaly by members, as it is fact that many memebers are truly of Indian heritage but for one reason or another, such as not being listed on the right roll, can not become a member of a federally recognized tribe.), Indian rights (such as fishing, hunting, gaming) arts, crafts etc...!]

Sorry but news articles, such as AP, REUTERS, Washington Post, etc., are copyrighted and are unacceptable unless the sender has received written permission to redistribute same! Sharing the content of the article in your own words, along with a short quote, is acceptable! Please also share a URL when possible or information concerning the source if the article is not available online! Sharing personal thoughts and/or an opinion on the content of the article would be more than welcome! Upcoming event information and/or information concerning past events is also welcome!

If you have a home page please put the URL in your signature, and forgo announcing every change! Folks do notice and will visit on their own if so inclined and this will also serve as a reminder and also let folks new to the list know about your site! Receiving post after post simply stating that an addition or update to a site has been made is felt to be annoying, to say the least! After all, it is annoying although felt logical for those who write sharware to nag folks to register but if a site is truly felt to be interesting nagging folks to visit should not be necessary, unless there are alterior motives!

Find a good site, feel free to share the path and a bit about the site! If the site is commercial please let this be known and include info on whether or not you are a part of it, which is felt okay, as long as the person is up front about it! Sharing information about a product that might be of interest to others on the list is felt more than acceptable! Constantly advertising is not acceptable! If you know of a good language, genealogy, or learning program, please feel free to share the information and yes genealogy is an acceptable topic! There is also a Genealogy/ History Internet BBS available on "the People's Paths home page!"

This is to be an unmoderated list but those who choose to use colorful metaphors or continually attack other subscribers personally will be removed! Simply using common sense when posting will help the list run smoothly! Please also know, that since this is actually supposed to be a discussion list, it is felt that subscribers are ultimately responsible for how active or non-active the list is, so please do not send email concerning same, instead post it on the list or better yet, try starting a conversation! If everyone waits for the the other person to post, well boring, so share folks share! Your thoughts and opinions are important and the reason the list was created and it is thought the reason why folks subscribe to discussion type email lists, in the first place, for the chance to interact with others by sharing thoughts and opinions, not just to evesdrop! Furthermore, disscusions do not have to be earth shattering news, as even the weather can and does affect North American Indian and Indigenous People so go for it, participate and enjoy interacting!!!

P.S. Subscriptions used for "unsolicited ads" and/or other types of "spam" will be deleted without notification or explanation, although since the subscriptions require a working email address this does not seem to be a problem!

Instructions for Subscribing & UnSubscribing
-=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=-

Once you've determined that you wish to subscribe to the paths-l mailing list, address an Internet email message to:

Majordomo@YvwiiUsdinvnohii.net

In the body of the message put the following as the only line of the message (no subject is necessary for the message):

subscribe paths-l

If for some reason you wish to have the mailings go to a different address (a friend's address, a specific other system on which you have an account, or an address which is more correct than the one that automatically appears in the "From:" header on the mail you send), you would add that address to the command. For instance, if you're sending a request from your work account, but wish to receive "paths-l" mail at your personal account (for which we will use "jqpublic@my-isp.com" as an example), you'd put the line

subscribe paths-l jqpublic@my-isp.com

in the mail message body. To unsubscribe type:

unsubscribe paths-l jqpublic@my-isp.com

You will receive notification via email from Majordomo that an authorization key is required for subscription. Another message will be sent to the address to be subscribed (which may or may not be the same as yours) containing the key, and directing the user to send a command found in that message back to Majordomo@YvwiiUsdinvnohii.net. (This can be a bit of extra hassle, but it helps keep you from being swamped in extra email by someone who forged requests from your address.) The message sent to the subscribing address will contain a line that looks something like this (assuming the same email address as above):

auth fcc9412f subscribe paths-l jqpublic@my-isp.com

You must send another message to Majordomo@YvwiiUsdinvnohii.net with that line as the only line of the message (no subject is necessary). You can do this easily by just replying to the message you receive and deleting all but the above line which must be flush with the left margin of the message body. Make sure that nothing else is in the message body or Majordomo will choke!

Upon successfully subscribing, you should receive an introductory message, containing list policies and features. Save this message for future reference; it will also contain exact directions for unsubscribing. If you lose the intro mail and would like another copy, send a message to Majordomo@YvwiiUsdinvnohii.net with the following in the body of the message:

intro paths-l

-=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=-

Once the message is received letting it be known that the subscription was successful, use the following address to post to the paths-l list: paths-l@YvwiiUsdinvnohii.net

-=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=-

In order for your messages to be posted, you will have to send them from the address used to subscribe. The list requires subscription for posting. If a message is ever rejected, please contact the list keeper at List-Keeper@YvwiiUsdinvnohii.net

Again, please keep in mind that the ambience of the list will be set by those subscribed so it is up to the subscribers and also felt to be co-owners, to keep the list pleasant, interesting, informative and converstions flowing! This will only come with participation though, so please do try to contribute and thanks in advance for doing so!
