OPPORTUNITIES TO SHARE IN EDUCATION

OIE Office of Indian Education "Ensuring No American
Indian and Alaska Native Child Is Left Behind
" The No Child
Left Behind Act amends the Indian education programs as
Title VII, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education
Act. This landmark in education reform embodies four key
principles: stronger accountability for results; greater
flexibility in the use of federal funds; more choices for
parents of children from disadvantaged backgrounds; and
an emphasis on research-based instruction that works.

American Indian College Fund "Native American colleges have been
called “under-funded miracles” and “economic lifelines” for U.S. Indian
reservations. There are 30 tribal colleges--all founded by Indians to
fight high rates of poverty, educational failure and cultural loss."

(AIGC) American Indian Graduate Center, Albuquerque, New Mexico
"In 1989, American Indian Scholarships, Inc. changed its name
to become the American Indian Graduate Center (AIGC). It is
still the only national non-profit organization dedicated
to aiding Indian graduate students in all fields of study."

National Indian School Board Association "NISBA's mission is
to support quality education in a safe environment from early
childhood through life in accordance with the Tribe's needs."

KIDS FROM KANATA "A national educational telecommunications project
linking urban and rural First Nations and non-Native students and
teachers via the Internet. The project represents a significant step in
the important process of establishing working relationships and dialogue
between First Nations communities and other communities across Canada."

Canada's SchoolNet "Welcome to SchoolNet, one of the best
educational web sites with over 7,000 Learning Resources, @SchoolNet
Today a daily information news service on the world of e-learning,
interactive features such as our polls of the month and much more!"

4 Directions "Four Directions is a Technology Innovation Challenge Grant
(Number R303A50083) funded by the United States Department of Education
and Administered by the Pueblo of Laguna Department of Education."

Center for Educational Technology in Indian America
"The Center for Educational Technology in Indian America is
an initiative of the Pueblo of Laguna Department of Education."

Four Directions Institute of Native American Studies
"To Preserve The Cultural Continuum of Native Americans"

Center for Indian Education CIE Mission: The purpose of the Center
is to serve as a major research and resource center in the field of
Indian Education and related fields at the local, state and national
levels; and to provide various services to Indian communities and the
Arizona State University community of students, staff and faculty.

  • Ted E. Bear's Trip to Holbrook Indian School "Summary: Ted began his year-long trip by leaving
  • Custer Park Elementary School, Illinios, and flying to Holbrook Indian School in Holbrook, Arizona, USA. While at Holbrook, he was greeted and entertained by a wonderful group of first, second, and third grade Navajo students, along with Mrs. Olson, their teacher. Ted took with him a Custer Park Yearbook and the wonderful paperback book The Heartland, so that the schools he visits can learn about his home."
