MINNESOTA - The First Annual Sobriety Torch Run from the Leech Lake Tribal Headquarters in Cass Lake, Minnesota to Battle Point, the site of the last "official" Indian War will be held on December 31, 1999. Emmet Eastman, Dakota, will carry the torch the first 5 miles. Dennis Banks, Anishinaabe Ojibwe will carry the torch several times during the run to the eastern shore of Leech Lake.The 38 mile Sobriety Run will start at noon at the tribal headquarters in Cass Lake. The run is estimated to take 5 hours and will be followed by a Sobriety Gathering with pipe ceremony, drumming, dancing, storytelling and feast at the Battle Point (Sugar Point) Community Center.
In memory of our loved ones lost to alcohol and drug abuse, the Native American Vets' Outreach is organizing a motercade to accompany the Sobriety Torch Run.
