"PEACE PARTY" Debuts To Acclaim! "Comic book featuring Native Americans called "impressive"!

Peace Party, a bold new series from Blue Corn Comics, is dazzling readers with its fast-paced mix of actor, humor, and intelligence. Critics and fans alike are calling it everything from "cool" to "thought-provoking" to "a revelation."

Written by Rob Schmidt, Peace Party is the story of two young Indians chosen by the gods to become superheroes. Unlike most comic books, Peace Party uses the genre to present character-based dramas. It portrays Native people as they are today, free from myths and stereotypes. With story lines ranging from prejudice and pollution to super villains and the supernatural, Peace Party is tapping into America's growing ecological, multicultural, and spiritual trends.

"Comic book publishers must reach new readers with new kinds of stories or suffer," explains Schmidt. "Thus, Peace Party, the right comic for the times."

Peace Party is a newsworthy story for several reasons: A board of Native American experts reviews each script for accuracy and sensitivity to Native concerns. This plain commitment to quality is unprecedented in a comic book. These experts, and other Native people who have seen Peace Party, are available to explain the need for its alternative perspective. As the title indicates, it's a sane alternative to all the sex and violence-steeped products on the market today.

That's one reason why Gladys Miller-Rosenstein, Executive Director of the Puffin Foundation, has called the comic a "revelation." Blue Corn Comics has pledged to donate 10% of the profits to Native organizations, such as the American Indian College Fund, another unprecedented level of commitment. Readers can expect thought-provoking text pieces; controversial letters pages, and contests galore, at least five in the first issue.

Retailer Steve Bates says simply, "I'm hooked." The comic has earned several accolades, and the first issue has just been published.

Among them: A $ 1,000 grant from the Puffin Foundation. A "Certified Cool" designation from Diamond Comics.

A Small Press Showcase of the plain Month is online at Bookery Fantasy.
