October 10, 1999 a special on Leonard Peltier is to be aired by CNN on CNN&TIME's Weekly News Magazine program.
"In 1977, Leonard Peltier, a member of the American Indian Movement, was convicted of murdering two FBI agents. CNN&TIME examines why some consider him a political prisoner. Sunday, October 10, 1999 at 9:00 p.m. eastern time."
"Unfinished Business? These days when we hear of violence erupting between federal authorities and groups of private citizens, Waco or Ruby Ridge may come to mind. Nearly a quarter of a century ago, in a more turbulent time in America, there was another shootout - this one at the Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota. It is a case that is still
controversial. American Indian Movement activist Leonard Peltier is serving two life sentences for those killings, but continues to fight for his freedom. What actually happened at Pine Ridge in 1975 remains unclear. What is known is that two FBI agents were killed… and only one man has ever been convicted and sent to prison for those crimes. Mark Potter talks with Peltier inside Leavenworth Penitentiary."
The program will be repeated Monday, October 11, 1999 at midnight eastern time. Check your local listings.
