The American Indian Movement of Florida (Florida AIM) asks all HUMAN BEINGS to join us in demanding Florida Governor Jeb Bush remove Bureau of Archaeological Chief James Miller from the position he has held for more than three decades. The last straw occurred when BAR Chief Miller stated that the driving of bulldozers by the TL Hunt construction company over and through the known boundaries of the Reedy Burial Mound in Hudson, FL did not constitute a "desecration, or disturbance" under Florida State Statute 872.05. Florida AIM Pasco County Director Ruby Beaulieu and Tampa Bay AIM Support Group Coordinator Shea Sandy photographed the destruction prior to Florida AIM filing a complaint with the Pasco County Sheriffs Office in regards to FSS 872.05
In fact NO ONE HAS EVER VIOLATED FSS 872.05 FLORIDA'S UNMARKED BURIAL LAW, no one has been prosecuted and Miller did not assist anyone in obtaining a prosecution in a 1994 case when Florida AIM obtained a videotape and four eyewitness affidavits showing an individual robbed the graves at the Reedy Mound. Miller advised it did not violate FSS 872.05
Miller however has used control and in at least one case used the law to justify his not taking the directives from the Seminole Tribe of FL, Miccosukee Tribe of FL and traditional Independent Seminoles as the spirit of the law states. Miller, instead for three decades has acted as the chief ghoul in Florida.
We ask that ask that all HUMAN BEINGs contact Jeb Bush's office. Write to or call:
The Capitol
Honorable Jeb Bush, Governor
Tallahassee, FL 32399
Phone 850-448-4441Demand that James Miller be removed at once, know that the Indigenous peoples buried in Florida will have no real protection from Pot Hunters, anthropologists or unscrupulous developers until Miller is gone.
Urge that Miller be replaced by someone appointed by Gov. Bush in consultation with the Seminole Tribe of FL, Seminole Nation of OK, Miccosukee Tribe of FL, Traditional Seminole Nation(FL) and the Muskogee Nation (OK) as these Nations have ancestors directly affected by the action, or inaction of the BAR.
