Phoenix, AZ - Clan/destine a local Native American band released their second album, "Deeply Rooted", last month, June of 1999. The album was self-produced under the band's own label, Rez Dawgs, Inc. They kicked off the release with a concert on July 3, 1999 at the Navajo Museum in Window Rock, Arizona. On July 4th they performed Live at Tempe Diablo Stadium in celebration of the Independence Day! In August Clan/destine will tour Berlin, Germany and perform at the great German-American Volksfest.Clan/destine consists of six members: David A. Montour (Potawatomi / Ottawa / Mohawk / Cayuga), Chuck Harris (Hopi / Tohono O'odham), Frank Poocha (Hopi / Pima), Juan Sanchez (Oglala Lakota / Spanish) and Steve Gatlin, originally from Dayton, OH, and recently adopted into the Lakota family, and Derrick Davis, 4-time World Champion Hoop Dancer (Hopi / Choctaw).
The band has been together since 1995 and performs all original music. Venues include every place from "The Empie House", in the Boulders to Scottsdale Center for the Arts. The band combines rock, reggae, and Native American influences. Mr. Davis creates a unique element to the show by performing traditional and contemporary dance to the music of Clan/destine. Clan/destine has performed for President Bill Clinton and travels the world performing varieties of music, including Derrick's hoop, fancy, traditional, and contemporary dance choreography.
