HEART BUTTE, MT - Leonard Mountain Chief, a Tribal Elder of the Blackfeet Indian Nation, passed on Monday in Heart Butte, Montana, after suffering a heart attack.

A rancher and active in the community, Leonard Mountain Chief, served three terms on the Blackfeet Tribal Council and also served as chairman of the Land Board and the Tribal Gaming Committee.

A movie actor, Mountain Chief, appeared in the 1989 film "War Party" and played Steven Seagal's father-in-law in 1998 film "The Patriot". Since 1948 the Elder has appeared in at least 17 films, many of them documentaries. As a champion fiddler, Mountain Chief has played in both Nashville and Hollywood, once headlined a country jamboree at the College of Great Falls in 1987 and had also performed with Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings.
