In a most recent incident that occurred at the Circle Newspaper office located in the basement of the Minneapolis American Indian Center the News Director of the Northern Plains Media Consortium, Harold Iron Shield was insulted, disrespected and mistreated by a young woman who introduced herself as the Associate Editor of the Circle.According to Mr. Iron Shield, he went to the Circle to request a press release sent to all tribal and native newspapers and radio station to announce a upcoming Human Rights Gathering and a Ceremony at Canton, South Dakota in May.
The young Associate Editor attempted to add her own concerns to a press release that had nothing to do with her personally. Iron Shield did not consent to adding her personal concern and she mentioned that maybe the Circle will print the press release.
Iron Shield totally disagreed with adding her personal concerns and had stated that he alone cannot make that decision. The Associate Editor became irrate and errational and her attitude changed. This has caused her to disrespect, insult and mistreat Iron Shield as he refused to continue speaking with her.
The Circle Newspaper is a Native American Newspaper printed in the Minneapolis American Indian Community for and by native people. Iron Shield's concern is why do native people treat other native people like trash.
"I thought the Circle had more class than that", Iron Shield said. "but hiring young people who think they are journalist and began there journey on the wrong foot discredits them immediately." said, Iron Shield
Mr. Iron Shield did not appreciate the rude behavior of this young women who really did'nt get her way in adding her personal concerns. According to media experts that is wrong for any journalist to add statements to press releases released by organizations or groups without their consent.
Iron Shield hopes that the Newspaper will change it's attitude and began realizing that Native people who walk thru their doors need to be respected and if not get rid of the trouble maker that causes ill treatment to happen.
