SIX NATIONS - The Six Nations Writers have partnered with Chiefswood National Historic Site on production of a spoken word compact disc that includes seventeen original works by fifteen different writers. Included are two works by E. Pauline Johnson.

Carrying on their oral storytelling tradition, the Six Nations Writers have completed the literary circle by turning their writing into spoken word. The title of the cd is Onkwawennahson'a (pronounced On-gwa-wen-nah-son'-ah) which means "Our Voices" in the Mohawk language.

This compilation is truly a gathering of our voices from within the Six Nations community and will be released at Six Nations Tourism on Saturday, March 15, 2003 at 6 p.m. The MC for the cd release is actor, Lorne Cardinal, who has appeared in Insomnia, North of 60 and Fallen Angel. He is currently filming a movie for television with Susan Sarandon, called Ice Bound.

Onkwawennahson'a, "Our Voices" was recorded at Grant Avenue Studio in Hamilton and co-produced by Six Nations Writers and Bob Doidge. The youngest voice on the cd was only three months old at the time of recording. Onkwawennahson'a, "Our Voices" includes poetry, prose, narration, songs, short stories and a radio play. There is something for everyone's literary palette.

The liner notes on the cd are written by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, James K. Bartleman, who is a First Nations author as well. The Six Nations Writers hope you will enjoy listening to Onkwawennahson'a "Our Voices", a work of historical, entertaining and educational value. They welcome you on a literary journey into their thoughts, feelings and dreams.

The Six Nations Writers acknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts and Human Resources Development Canada in production of this spoken word cd.
