PUC Cancels Public Hearing and Prehearing Conference On Mohave Generating Plant

ARIZONA - The California Public Utilities Commission (PUC), at the request of law enforcement officials and emergency personnel in Arizona, has cancelled its Public Participation Hearing (PPH) and Prehearing Conference (PHC) scheduled for Friday, September 13, in Tuba City, Arizona.

A State of Emergency has been declared in the Tuba City area by the Navajo Nation Commission on Emergency Management, due to localized flooding, mud, debris, and serious erosional damage, which has impacted the general public, property, and high-risk patients. The area continues to be impacted and endangered by continuing rains. At the request of law enforcement officials and emergency personnel, the Commission is canceling the PPH and PHC and will reschedule as expeditiously as possible.

The PPH and PHC were called to discuss Southern California Edison’s request that the PUC either recognize the end of Mohave Generating Station’s operations at the end of 2005, or authorize Edison to spend up to $58 million in 2003 on pollution control measures.
