West Yellowstone, MT - Summer is just about over and our tabling season in Yellowstone National Park has come to a close. This has been a very productive summer full of strong outreach. We spoke to 6,500 people and raised more than $5,0000 for the buffalo from the people who stopped by our table to help. We coudn't have done it without the help of all the folks who volunteered so much of their time to staff our tables. Thank you!We just received a report from the National Park Service saying the buffalo population in the park has passed 4,000. According to the Interagency Bison Management Plan, when the population exceeds 3,000 animals the Department of Livestock may kill indiscriminately, without even testing for brucellosis. This could make for another tough winter. A few bulls have already left the park this week. Shane Grube, the DOL agent who lives near West Yellowstone, attempted to haze one bull but lost him within minutes in the woods.
We have begun gathering wood for the long winter months. Our volunteer numbers are getting low so if there is anyone who enjoys working hard and wants to help we have a bed and great food waiting for you.
Special thanks to everyone who made donations in the name of Bud Musgrove from Spokane, we send our love and prayers. Thanks to everyone who supports the Buffalo and this campaign. We can't do it without you!
For the buffalo,
Megan Fishback
