MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Creations by local artist Lisa Fifield will be featured through Art in the Mayor’s Office, a program sponsored by the City of Minneapolis and Minneapolis Arts Commission, beginning July 15. Public viewing of the exhibit is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., July 15 through August 30, in the Mayor’s Conference Room, City Hall Room 333, 350 South 5th Street.

The catalyst for Lisa's work is the American Indian belief in the partnership of animals, seasons and the earth. Working primarily in watercolors, her work often tells visual stories which explore the role of American Indian women as clan mothers and balancing forces of life. Classically trained at the Atelier LeSueur School of Art in Wayzata, MN, she is the winner of two Minnesota State Arts Board Purchase Awards and has exhibited nationally as well as internationally.

A reception honoring Lisa Fifield will be held on Friday, July 19, 2002, 5 to 7 p.m. in Room 333 of City Hall, 350 South 5th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55415. She will also sign posters with an illustration of her image, The Heart of the Red Throated Loon Woman, and images by Patrick Rolo used to promote Loon Appreciation Week sponsored by LoonWatch, a program of the Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute of Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin. Since it was established in 1978, LoonWatch has worked to protect Common Loons and their aquatic habitats through education and research.

Art in the Mayor's Office, which began in 1995 and includes a juried a competition, provides a prominent setting for local artists to display their works in City Hall.
