Pacifica Radio's WPFW-FM (98.3) set to Launch "Nightwolf" A New Weekly Program on Native American IssuesThe true story of the original people of the North American Hemisphere has never been told, and much of that which has been revealed has been distorted. For too long, Native Americans have lived in the shadow lands of American social, economic, cultural and historical consciousness. The image of the so-called “Red Man” in America’s cultural conscious is driven by Hollywood celluloid images of "noble savages" or fearsome plains warriors. But there is so much, much more . . .
On Sunday evening, May 5, 2002, Pacifica Radio's WPFW 89.3 FM will premiere and introduce Nightwolf hosted by J. Winter Nightwolf, an Eastern Band Cherokee. The Program will occasionally be co-hosted by Eagle Warrior of the Eastern Lenape Nation.
This program will fill the 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. time slot every Sunday evening beginning with its debut May 5th. Nightwolf will offer rare, deep and profound insights into American Indian culture and will offer a window for others to learn about issues impacting contemporary Native American society. From the “Trail of Tears” to the “Red Spirit Road” Nightwolf will transport WPFW listeners into domains that exist beside us and even “in” us from a genetic standpoint, but about which many of us remain sadly ignorant.
"Nightwolf will provide a window of sound through which members of the human family can learn the true history of the Native People", said J. Winter Nightwolf, adding that, "through the connections of spirit, bloodlines and historical fact that we will make on this program, connections rooted in humanity’s common thread, we’ll all learn something about one another."
Nightwolf will also offer something American mainstream media never does: the Native American perspective about important national and global events including contemporary issues such as U.S. race relations, U.S. foreign policy, immigration, education, health and welfare, genocide around the world and in history, economic and social issues for Indigenous People worldwide, the Middle East conflict and the plight of the Palestinian people.
Nightwolf, as with all WPFW and Pacifica Radio station programs, is funded by WPFW listeners.
