Friends of the Buffalo,It has been a very cold holiday week in the Madison River valley, with the shortest days of the year bringing us nighttime temperatures down to -30 F. We have been enjoying the sunny days, though, as the Department of Livestock (DOL) has taken the week off. We were also able to enjoy a wonderful feast, sledding, and a moonlit ski tour on Christmas.
With a lack of DOL activity we have been able to catch up on some rest and the daily chores that keep the campaign running. Patrols go out every day to keep an eye on the bison outside the park boundaries. Today, thanks to pilot Reg Goodwin of Project Lighthawk, we are conducting an aerial survey of Yellowstone. We will plot the location of nearly all the bison in the park--information that will be invaluable in the coming months.
While we count our blessings, the wheels of the campaign roll on. We refuse to allow the slaughter of the last wild bison to continue and will be here until these beautiful animals get the justice they deserve.
Volunteers and supporters of the BFC literally span the globe. We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to each of you and wish you a wonderful new year.
With the Buffalo,
/S/ Pete
