Anchorage, AK, and Albuquerque, NM - Native America Calling Host Harlan McKosato will be one of 40 individuals honored by The Anderson Schools of Management at the University of New Mexico next month for his work and service to the community. McKosato was selected from among more than 130 nominees.

"Harlan was selected for recognition in the communications area where his excellence is reflected every day in his radio program," said Anderson Schools Dean Howard Smith. "He builds the Native community nationwide through the broadcast and we are honored to have him as a part of our state and as a part of our community."

Native America Calling, the country's only national Native American radio talk show, is broadcast by 39 Native and public radio stations in the United States and Canada. McKosato has been host of the daily program since September 1997.

"It's a special honor to be recognized by people who pay attention to what's going on in our community," said McKosato. "I'm always happy to learn that Native America Calling is bringing people closer together and making a difference."

The "Up-and-Comers Award" was established to honor New Mexicans under the age of 40 who demonstrate excellence in their professional lives and community service. The Award will be bestowed on McKosato at a luncheon on November 13. A complete list of honorees is available on the Anderson Schools of Management, University of New Mexico, web site.

Native America Calling is a production of Koahnic Broadcast Corporation (KBC), a Native American/Alaska Native non-profit media center headquartered in Anchorage, AK. KBC is the country's leading producer of Native American radio programming and serves nearly one million radio and Internet listeners each week.

KBC operates three divisions: KNBA 90.3 FM, the country's only urban, Native-controlled public radio station; national radio programming, including National Native News, Earthsongs, and Native America Calling; and the KBC Training Center, an educational initiative dedicated to increasing Native voices in the nation's media industry.
