The Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation leadership said the need to help in the rescue efforts in New York and Washington, D.C. was very strong for their people.

Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation donated $100,000 to the Kansas Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross in Topeka. An oversized check read "Terrorist attack against the U.S." on the memo area.

"It's a drop in the bucket compared to what is needed, but hopefully it can help people," said Wahwasuck, tribal chairman.

"Our tribe gives its condolences to all the families and especially to the rescue workers, firefighters and police officers."
