It has been 5 years since the Dudley George Family lawsuit has been filed. Ken Deane has been taken all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada and has his conviction upheld. In the Wednesday, August 22, 2001 issue of The Sarnia Observer there is an article entitled “UN being asked to investigate George shooting”. The last paragraph of this article states, “Rui Brum, a spokesperson for the attorney general’s office, said that while the criminal trial involving Deane ended in 1997, the attorney general’s office can’t discuss an inquiry until Sam George’s civil suit is settled."

Once again, it has been more 5 years since the George Family Lawsuit has been filed and the Premier has not even seen the inside of the courtroom. Today is August 26, 2001, there is also, Mr. Runciman, Mr. Harnick, Mr. Beaubien, Thomas O’Grady, Kenneth Deane, the OPP as a whole...yet to be “dealt with” by this lawsuit. So, what does simple arithmetic say? The way the court case is going, we are looking at approximately 20-30 years to get this done with! Sadly, a lot of people will pass away in this time period. Most of all, a good portion will have been oral history and oral tradition.

Sam George did not file this lawsuit alone, it was filed by 5 of Dudley’s surviving brothers and sisters. My point is, that the lawsuit should definitely be dropped. Why? - Because a public inquiry would have to be called as indicated by the Attorney General’s office in the above mentioned article.

My other point is, why does Sam want to drag this out and keep the healing from beginning. Especially so, for us, the brothers and sisters of Dudley. I also make special note of the fact that there is gross conflict of interest on the part of Sam, and Pam George. How can Sam effectively sue or seek justice when he closely associates with certain OPP officers? The other gross conflict of interest on their part in the lawsuit against the OPP is that Pam’s son, Ian George, is now in the employ of the Ontario Provincial Police.

All that I ask is that as you read this, think about what is truly right and just. People, you must remember, that it is the public that has funded the greater amount of money for this lawsuit to proceed. Therefore, it is in the interest of the people that any further money should be directed in a major campaign for a public inquiry. People, it was 51 years that the Stoney Pointers were kept away from their homeland against their will. Justice, for Dudley, and the Stoney Pointers.

Perhaps, I should initiate criminal proceedings against Premier Mike Harris in the capacity of accessory, or being a party to criminal negligence causing death. Then, I could subpoena Sam, Murray Klippenstein, Andrew Orkin, and Joanna Bierenbaum as witnesses for the prosecution to obtain Justice for Dudley. After all, they have the piece of paper that supposedly ties Mike Harris in.

In truth and justice, In the Spirit of Dudley,

Pierre George
