August 18th, 2pm-6pm, Cincinnati, Ohio - The Cincinnati Zapatista Coalition will be having a mini-event for it's August Movie entitled "Indigenous Resistance to Corporate Globalization" in the Maureen Woods Room at the Crazy Ladies Center at the corner of Hamilton Avenue and Blue Rock in Northside (4039 Hamilton), Cincinnati.

The first part of the event will feature a CZC speaker, Jim, who will have just returned from a delegation to a Zapatista Autonomous Municipality in Chiapas. Jim is currently helping to build and maintain Zapatista autonomous schools in Oventic and Guadelupe Tepeyac, and to visit Aguascalientes I and II. He will give a report on what he saw, learned, and gained from going to an Autonomous Municipality in Chiapas, Mexico. He will have some pictures to show. He will also be bringing back Zapatista goods and cooperative goods from his trip. There will be a discussion afterwards.

The second part of the event will be a film entitled, "Our Land, Our Future" (27 minutes in length). In Nicaragua, multinational corporations have announced plans to build one or more inter-oceanic canals across Nicaragua for the purpose of transporting goods. While the Nicaraguan government is considering these plans, their effect on the environment would be devastating. The huge container ports at either end of the canal would contain free trade zones. The lands to be used on the Caribbean side are the ancestral lands of Nicaraguaas, indigenous peoples, guaranteed to them by the Nicaraguan constitution. Not all indigenous peoples are opposed to the canal plans. The region can have unemployment as high as 90% and the corporations claim in the national media that the canals will bring many new jobs. The speakers are mainly indigenous people in this documentary.

Crazy Ladies Center asks a $1 donation per person for using their space. If you don't have the $1, don't feel necessitated to give it, if you can afford an extra dollar for someone else, Crazy Ladies would appreciate it.
