In January 2001, United States President Bill Clinton overlooked the struggle for freedom of Native political prisoner Leonard Peltier.

Peltier supporters world wide were devastated. We all thought a humanitarian gesture of the United States would bring freedom for Peltier. We all were wrong.

Peltier is the foremost native political prisoner in this millennium who sits in a cell for the deaths of FBI agents. Under documents obtained in the freedom of Information Act, Peltier is shown to be innocent.

In response, the Lakota Student Alliance encourages all supporters of Peltier to continue in the struggle for Leonard's freedom.

We would like to announce the 2nd annual Commemoration of the Oglala Incident... The 2nd annual Oglala Commemoration Begins at day break June 26th in Oglala South Dakota. The day begins with a morning prayer led by Chief Arvol Looking Horse, keeper of the Sacred White Buffalo Calf pipe. Prayers begin at the grave site of Anna Mae Aquash and Joe Stuntz at the Little Family Cemetery.

Then we walk from the cemetery to the Jumping Bulls residence where the 1975 Incident took place. This is to remember those Lakota people whose lives were affected by a United States counterinsurgency effort on Pine Ridge Reservation. At the Incident Site, the Peltier support groups from across the United States will honor the people of Oglala with feasts and giveaways.

A sacred fire will be burning that day also to honor those passed on. Location will be determined by the Lakota Student Alliance.

The Lakota Student Alliance and AIM Kansas Support Group will conclude the days events with a free concert and Invite the people of the Oglala Lakota Nation to join us with songs and speakers from across the great turtle island....

Performers include: Native American Music Award Winner WAYQUAY of New York State; The Legendary Performer JACKIE BIRD of Sisseton SD. The inspiring Micmac Songwriter DONNA AUGUSTINE of New Brunswick Province in Canada; The Awesome Hip hop Performer REDSOUL of Los Angeles; Seattle folk singer JIM PAGE; Lakota Hip hop star STORM; and many more....
