A Nation without a Vision/Dream is destined to Perish." Survival depends on fulfilling our spiritual potential. We must recognize our spiritual leadership and believe that we hold the power to eradicate many of the problems we face today. Now is the Time. The Grandfathers have spoken -- They issue an urgent call for us to gather as "One Red Nation". Today, more than ever, we are challenged to find peaceful ways to work together for the good of the people.A Gathering of the Red Nation is called by the Elders of Sagkeeng First Nation. It will take place July 1 and 2, 2001 at Fort Alexander, Manitoba, Canada. (nearest town: Pine Falls). Its purpose is to engage the assistance of our spiritual leadership to provide a united vision that will safeguard the survival of our Nation. This historic event will mark a new era of collaboration between our different communities but, more importantly among the Spiritual Leadership of our Nations.
During this time we will discuss and celebrate our survival as a people through ceremonies of 'thanksgiving'. In the center will be the gifts the Creator has bestowed upon us as a people: The Sacred Pipes, the Drum, Our Eagle Staffs and the Sacred Fire will burn. A visit to the nearby sacred site Manitou Abi is planned. Lakota Chief Arvol Lookinghorse, Ojibwe Spiritual Leaders and others will be in attendance.
Concerns to be discussed: At the forefront are the Youth. Children today live with the inheritance of a nightmare--not a vision of life. As spiritual leaders, adults, parents, grandparents and community leaders, we have a sacred responsibility to the children to: Offer a vision that provides a remembrance of our way of life as the Red Nation; and to Provide strong spiritual support by teaching our way of life through learning environments that reflect our ancient knowledge. And: Healing--as a nation, The Health and well being of Elders, Health and well being of our Women. More may be added as discussions take place.
