Seed 2 Stage: An unprecedented evening of Aboriginal Women's Dance, May 12, 2001, at 8:00 p.m. (reception/ meet & greet to follow) Tickets are $10.00 at the door. Reaturing: Ojibway Jingle Dress Dancer, Karen Pheasant Zapotec Native/Mexican dancer, Georgina Martinez Greenlandic Inuit Mask Dancer, Sarah Nya Laakkuluk special guest Denise Fujiwara will present an excerpt of Sumida River Reception to follow.

An Unprecedented Evening of Aboriginal Women's Dance From: Sandra LaRonde, Native Women in the Arts Founder & Artistic Producer

You are invited to SEED 2 STAGE: an evening of Aboriginal women's dance including Ojibway champion Jingle Dress Dancer Karen Pheasant, Zapotec Native/Mexican dancer Georgina Martinez, Greenlandic Inuit Mask Dancer Sarah Nya Laakukuluk with special guest Toronto's Denise Fujiwara who will perform an excerpt of Sumida River (which was voted by NOW as the best dance performance in Toronto in 2000).

Please join us on Saturday May 12th, 2001 at 8:00 p.m. at Dancemakers for this unprecedented evening of dance. There will also be a post performance "meet and greet" with food & refreshments provided by Aboriginal chef extraordinaire David Wolfman: Smoked White Fish, Buffalo, Sage and Wildrice Patties, Caribou and Cranberry Turnovers.

A Panel Session with an eye to the future of Aboriginal women's dance takes place on Friday May 11th from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 401 Richmond St. West, Suite 122. Everyone is welcome. Panelists include Karen Pheasant, Georgina Martinez, Esmeralda Enrique, Denise Fujiwara, Joysanne Sidimius, Myles Warren and Mimi Beck among others.

These events are a culmination of a 5-day physical intensive workshop which investigates movement, energy, clowning, improvisation and storytelling through movement.

Native Women in the Arts was founded in 1993 by actor/writer/publisher Sandra Laronde. Native Women in the Arts is an organization for Native women from diverse nations and artistic disciplines who share the common interest of culture, art, community and the advancement of indigenous peoples.
