The American Indian Movement of Florida (Florida AIM) will participate in the national day of protest against the immoral, unethical, repulsive and racist use of the Teshunka Wetko (Crazy Horse) name to market clothing apparel items manufactured by Liz Clairborne and sold at JC Penny's. As there is no Jesus Christ or Buddha clothing line. No, George Washington clothing line marketed without the permission and input of the descendants we know that JC Penny's and Liz Clairborne believe they have some inherent right to continue the legacy of the dominant society of theft from Indigenous peoples.

Florida AIM notes that JC Penny's itself has a history and a legacy of anti-Indian behavior. Pennys sold as American Indian made, jewelry and other crafts made by non-Indians. When sued by the Native American Arts association Penny's asserted the Indian Arts and Crafts Act was racist because it required those making and selling Indian Art to be Indian. (NAA vs JC Penny's).

Florida AIM therefore will gladly protest out in front of the JC Penny's at TYRONE SQUARE MALL 6901 22nd AVE N in SAINT PETERSBURG beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday May 26, 2001. We ask all people of conscience to attend.

The American Indian Movement of Florida calls upon all people of conscience to participate, where they can, in this weekends nationwide protests of Liz Claiborne and JC Penny's disrespectful, arrogantly racist, and immoral use of T'shunka Witko (Crazy Horse) name to sell appearal items.

Florida AIM also has called for our members, friends, supporters and those in solidarity with this protest to send a loud and clear message to JC Penny's.

At Saturday's protest in Saint Petersburg Florida AIM members and supporters will burn JC Penny's credit cards and will send their balance due to the Estate of T'shunka Witko and a letter to JC Penny's explaining what they have done and why.

We ask those who have JC Penny's cards to do the same in solidarity.

The address to the estate of T'shunka Witko-who are also continuing the fight against "Crazy Horse Malt Liquor" is Estate of T'shunka Witko, P.O. Box 698, Rosebud, SD 57570.
