Nearly twenty members of the American Indian Movement of Florida and the Florida AIM Support Groups spent several hours cleaning up an Indigenous cemetery where the former Sandman Nursery is located in Carol City, FL.

The Mothers Day Indigenous cemetery clean-up was done after Florida AIM learned about the site owned by the Miami-Dade County School District, is being considered for a school bus parking lot. The School District claims they bought the property without knowing the site included an Tequesta cemetery on it.

The Miami-Dade School District refused to cooperate with Florida AIM's request for access to the site. The site was locked, AIM members and supporters simply circumvented the lock and filled 15 trash bags, as well as removed some larger material from the site placing it in front of the gate for removal. Local residents noted the school board had mowed the property the day before and sent in work crews to clean up some of the refuse the day before as well.

AIM members and supporters also leafletted neighbors to build support to make the property a passive park.
