Minneapolis, MN – It is not too early to begin making plans to spend part of your summer in Buffalo, New York, site of the next NAJA annual convention.

The theme for the NAJA 2001 convention is “Journalism Without Borders.” Journalists throughout the northern hemisphere will converge in Buffalo on June 13-16 at the Adam’s Mark Hotel to honor the diversity and commonalties that define indigenous people.

Special programming will highlight the roles journalists play in giving voice to indigenous communities—communities that lived in this part of the world long before national borders were established.

“This year’s convention will focus on the unique connections that all indigenous people share as an historic and traditional global family,” said Mary Annette Pember, NAJA president. “As we continue into this new millennium, NAJA will address the issues that define the struggles that indigenous communicators face in attempting to better serve their communities through journalism.”

The NAJA board of directors and the staff are hard at work in developing programs and events for what promises to be another successful convention. Everyone is strongly encouraged to start marking their June calendars and to take advantage of the “early bird” convention registration rates.
