Statement from Gathering of Nations

This letter is regarding a recent false statement being passed around on the internet starting on April 1, 2001. If you know of anyone else who would benefit from this information, please pass it along. We called the Albuquerque Associated Press and they have verified and assured us that they DID NOT release any such article, nor did ANY Associated Press office in the world. Just so everyone knows, the 2001 Gathering of Nations Powwow, Miss Indian World, and Indian Traders Market is NOT cancelled, will not be cancelled, and there has NEVER been a plan to cancel the Gathering.THE TRUTH IS... this year's Gathering of Nations is going to be the BIGGEST and BEST EVER. The 2001 Gathering will include over 3000 Native singers and dancers and a special tribute to Sammy 'Tonekei' White. Also included this year are top Native artists including Wes Studi, Irene Bedard, Ulali, Robert Mirabal, Clandestine, Star Nayea, William Gutierrez, and more who will be performing at the Gathering this year. We are also looking forward to the attendance of executives from the Recording Academy (Grammy's) for a special presentation to the Award Winning Drum Groups and the opportunity to meet with ALL Native artists interested in membership and voice in the Academy.
Our first priority is, and always has been, producing the best possible powwow that we can for you, our friends. It's gonna be a GOOD ONE this year with more on the schedule than ANY of the past 17 years, we hope to see you there!
Thank you again for seeking the truth.
Much respect,
Gathering of Nations
