Sacred Earth Conference will take place at SEATTLE UNIVERSITY in Seattle Washington, April 20 - 22nd. This historic gathering is the first national conference intending to create a coalition between Indigenous Nations and environmental/social justice groups. Protecting Earth based Native religions and endangered sacred places throughout the Americas is the focus of this conference which is sponsored by Seventh Generation Fund, an Indigenous Peoples organization dedicated to promoting and maintaining the uniqueness of Native peoples and our nations.Developing strategies for legislative support and public education, Sacred Earth Conference will also focus on building cross sector alliances intending to preserve Native land and tradition. Native communities, members of faith-based groups and environmental networks will be represented at this conference with a broad range of presenters/speakers,. Some of those in attendance will be: Corbin Harney, Western Shoshone Elder, advisor for Shundahai Network; Rosalie Little Thunder, Lakota, took the lead in Yellowstone Buffalo protection for many years; Chris Peters, Pohlik-lah, former plaintiff in the landmark GO Road Case (set the stage for Native religious freedom cases); Joann Tall, Oglala, a Goldman Enviro prize winner, organizer, part of recent occupation at Pine Ridge tribal offices; Sonny Weahkee, Zuni, Cochiti, Dine' working with Petroglyph Monument Protection and cross-sectored organizing in Albuquerque; Patty Murray, United States Senator from Washington State, a politician who has made the protection of wilderness a top priority for her legislative agenda; Randi Spivak from American Land Alliance and Brock Evans of Defenders of Wildlife Organization.
Sacred Earth Conference is co-sponsored by various Northwest Indian Tribes, American Land Alliance,The Washington (state) Association of Churches and the One With Creation Retreat Center. Please note: all nations/communities in struggle are invited to attend.
