CHICAGO - Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) is seeking participants for May delegations to the Middle East and to Chiapas, Mexico. The changing situation in both areas at this time makes the presence of international peace delegations important for purposes of documentation, accompaniment, and confronting violence with nonviolent action. Apply today for inclusion in these teams!

MIDDLE EAST: May 25-June 6, July 27-August 8, and November 16-28, 2001. The intensified violence in the Occupied Territories has local people calling for international observers and Palestinian and Israeli activists looking for new initiatives in nonviolence. Delegates will meet with human rights workers on both sides of the conflict and then join CPT's Hebron team in daily street patrols, accompaniment, and documentation. Cost is $1800 US.

CHIAPAS, MEXICO: May 14-26, July 18-30, and November 19-December 1, 2001.

The inauguration of Mexican president Vicente Fox resulted in the removal of certain military and immigration check-points, the withdrawal of some army troops, and the release of a number of political prisoners. The recent Zapatista caravan to Mexico City energized thousands of indigenous people, helping them believe in the possiblity of dialog on the San Andres Accords for the first time in years. However, a low-intensity warfare continues despite the changing political situation. Delegates will learn about issues of injustice underlying the conflict in this southern Mexican state, and will meet with villagers in displaced communities. Cost is $1000 US.

CPT seeks participants in all delegations who have interest or experience in human rights work, commitment to nonviolent action, willingness to participate in team worship, and a desire to share about the experience upon their return.
