WINNIPEG, MB ~ March 5, 2001 – The Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) was a solid presence at the 2001 Blizzard Awards, with InVision news Anchor Carol Adams awarded the newly introduced BEST ANCHOR award. When informed of her award, Carol Adams noted that she was honored, and insisted on sharing the glory:

"I have always known that Aboriginal journalists are able to compete with the best and succeed, and it is the same in all areas, whether it is business, education, sports or the arts", she said. “Receiving this award proves that our People are talented, skilled and knowledgeable. It is a recognition for all Aboriginal journalists."

Proof of that could be found in Rick Harp’s nomination for BEST HOST/PRESENTER (Contact, APTN’s national call-in discussion program) and Halifax Correspondent Maureen Googoo's nomination for BEST NEWS STORY (Gas Sniffing in Labrador: Sheshatshui).

These acknowledgements show that, for two fledgling news and current affairs programs that have been on the air for less than a year, InVision and Contact can more than hold their own with the established news programs on Global, CKY and CBC. Contact celebrates one year on the air on March 30th, with InVision marking its one year anniversary on April 16th.

Along with all of the Blizzard 2001 award winners, APTN is particularly pleased to congratulate Ice Productions for winning the BEST CHILDREN'S PROGRAM with Cool Jobs, Produced by Tanya Brunel and Lawrence Dunn and Executive Produced by Jeremy Torrie and Ron Missyabit (seen on APTN on Thursdays at 4:30 pm & 9:30 pm and Fridays 4:00 pm EST), as well as for their nomination in BEST CURRENT/PUBLIC AFFAIRS for Medicine Wheel, Produced by Jeremy Torrie (Wednesdays at 3:30 pm and 9:30 pm EST)

Further congratulations go out to Brad Hoplock of Mid Canada Production Services Inc., nominated for BEST ANIMATION for the incredibly stunning opening animation of Sharing Circle. Sharing Circle is Produced by Lisa Meeches of Eagle Vision Productions for broadcast on APTN, seen Saturdays at 4:00 pm EST.
