Cincinnati, Ohio - President Clinton has until January 20th to grant executive clemency or pardons to prisoners. President Clinton has already pardoned around 50, and commuted three sentences. There has recently begun an intensified campaign against Peltier. Included are Governor Janklow of South Dakota, the FBI (including a march and rally by retired and off duty FBI agents in front of White House, a petition drive), House Judiciary Committee Chairman Henry Hyde (R-IL) and other members of the US House of Representatives, and more. We need to counter these campaigns and during the next three weeks make a solid stand for Peltier. This may be Peltier's last chance at freedom until his parole hearing in 2008. Therefore, we feel the need to help out Peltier in any way during this urgent time. We hope you too will help Peltier out during the next three weeks. There are several ways to help, listed below.

a) Forward this message to friends, family, other list servs, and fellow activists.

b) Attend the January 6th Peltier gathering in Cincinnati, Ohio if he hasn't been granted clemency, and if he has, still show up and celebrate! The event will take place from 1-4pm at the Hamilton County Courthouse (on Main Street) and at the Peaslee Center (at 14th and Sycamore). We will start with an outdoor rally in front of the Courthouse (1pm) and walk to the Peaslee Center with signs and flyers (~1:30pm). At the Peaslee Center there will be snacks and refreshments, an information and merchandise booth, informational speakers, postcard and petition signing, a video showing, and a free fax to the White House. Bring family, friends, and fellow activists. If you want more information, an exact time schedule of events, or can volunteer to put up flyers for us feel free to email us at miriamczc@yahoo.com or 1.513.232.0362. We hope to see you there! FREE PELTIER! For more information on Leonard Peltier please visit the LPDC web site!

c) Call the White House! - Call the White House comments line and tell them you wish President Clinton to grant Leonard Peltier clemency. The number is 1.202.456.1111, dial extension 0 for an operator (M-F, 9am-5pm). Call as often as you can! Since the FBI is having a simultaneous effort against Peltier, we need to get as many calls there as possible. To refute the FBI's message, it is important we stress to operators the following: "We support clemency because Leonard Peltier never received a fair trial, and the US Prosecutor has since admitted several times that he does not know who killed the agents. Ending this injustice would be an honorable step toward reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples across the United States." (suggested by LPDC). Or simply, "I wish President Clinton to grant Executive Clemency to Leonard Peltier." NOW IS THE TIME!

d) Write a letter asking for Executive Clemency for Leonard Peltier to: President Clinton, The White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20500. Or email the President at president@whitehouse.gov (emails not taken as seriously)

e) Keep an eye on your newspapers and TV news broadcasts, and prepare to respond. Please send all copies of letters to the editors, editorials, etc to lpdc@idir.net. The FBI have mounted a campaign in the media, and there are reports that several FBI agents have been on radio programs, on news broadcasts, and have written editorials around the United States. If on the radio, call the radio and demand they give the other side the equal amount of air time to present their views. For tips contact the LPDC, by email: lpdc@idir.net or phone: 785-842-5774.

f) Contact your Congressional Representative and tell them you support clemency and strongly oppose any congressional action that would attempt to block it. The number to the Congressional Switchboard is 202-224-3121. They can tell you who your representative is and they will transfer your call to his or her office. They can also give you a mailing address.

g) Cincinnati too far away? Organize your own action before January 19th!

h) Get free Peltier postcards from the Leonard Peltier Defense Committee and have them signed by your friends, family, and activist organizations and sent to President Clinton. For more info on how to receive these please call 1.785.842.5774 or email lpdc@idir.net. If they are out of them, make your own!

i) Print out a copy of the Free Leonard Peltier petition and have it signed and sent in to President Clinton. Originals of all petitions should be sent to the White House and copies sent to the Leonard Peltier Defense Committee. You can obtain a copy of the flyer online, visit, CZC (hit the link to the Peltier petition). There is also a flyer available online on the LPDC website, visit LPDC Free Peltier Site
