People all over the world will be able to listen to the Third Annual Native American Music Awards (Nammys), live online. The Nammys will be broadcast live on Earthsongs. a weekly, hour-long music program that highlights and examines contemporary music being produced by Native American artists. The host is Gregg McVicar, of Tlingit (Alaska Native) heritage. McVicar is an award-winning producer who has worked for nearly three decades in the public radio industry. The event will be broadcast live over American Indian Radio on Satellite (AIROS) on November 11, 2000 at 10 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Eastern Time.Earthsongs' live coverage of the Nammys will feature an outstanding lineup of live performances by some of today's most talented artists including; Indigenous, Robert Mirabal, Medicine Dream, Mary Youngblood, Bill Miller and Joanne Shenandoah.
Rita Coolidge will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award, Jim Pepper will be inducted into the NAMMY Hall of Fame. Other special guests presenters include; John Densmore of The Doors, Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead, and Peter Buffet. Navajo, Notah Begay III, the only full blooded American Indian on the PGA circuit, will also be there to mark this important occasion. Begay will be presented with a Jim Thorpe Sports Award.
