The American Indian Movement of Florida protested FSU's use of Indian people as a sports mascot at their homecoming game in Tallahassee, FL.

Fifteen (15) Florida AIM members and supporters rallied for 5 hours, with additional people attending throughout the protest. Several fans were inspired to turn over their paraphernalia, which Florida AIM State Executive Director Sheridan Murphy burned as fans exited the stadium.

Florida AIM will continue its protests until FSU halts the use of stereotypical, racist and disgraceful imagery and the use of American Indian peoples, culture, and spirituality as a sports team mascot. We also will continue to demand FSU respect the sovereignty of the Seminole Nation and formally request permission to use the name from the traditional and Indian Reorganization Act Tribal Councils.
