Takla Landing, B.C. - The Takla First Nation of Northern British Columbia have closed off their territory to all resource extraction. On July 14, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. the Kotsine was closed and on July 17, 2000 at 12:00 p.m. the British Columbia Railway was shut down.

Councillor Edna Johnny states that "We are tired of watching our resources leave our territory without any benefits to the Takla First Nation."

Councillor Wilma Abraham states that "I don't agree with seeing our people highly dependent on social assistance when we have so many resources in our backyard.."

Councillor Cheryl George states that "I believe totally in a sustainable forest for the future generations and we are prepared to do anything that is necessary to ensure that our resources are preserved."

We have the full support of three (3) Nations, the Carrier, Sekani and Gitksan.
