Red Cloud Building, Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, SD - The Grass Roots Lakota Oyate (GRLO) are happy to report that no arrests were made on Wednesday, July 5, 2000. There had been talk that at the last informal meeting of the Oglala Sioux Tribal Council arrangements had been made with the FBI, to remove the GRLO from the premises at "high noon" on Wednesday.President of the Oglala Lakota Sioux Tribe, Harold Salway, did make an appearance at the Red Cloud Building at "high noon", to inform the Oglala Lakota Sioux Nation that he was going to retake his seat.
President Salway was, according to Salway, illegally suspended last April by the Oglala Lakota Tribal Council. The council also suspended the tribal police chief with out notice.
Salway also requested a meeting with the Oglala Lakota General Council to present his plan for he and only a skeleton crew to move back into the Red Cloud Building.
The General Council met with ousted President Harald Salway on Thursday, July 6, at 1:00 p.m. at the Red Cloud Building. Salway presented his ideas. They will meet again today to discuss it privately.
In the meantime, the occupants spent the day cleaning the doors and windows, making new posters and learning how to operate their new computer and process e-mails.
The Grass Roots Lakota Oyate wish to thank all for the continued support, concern, and prayers, and do appreciate those who have taken the time to contact them personally. "It is comforting to be in touch with the outside world", said one of the spokespersons for the Grass Roots Lakota Oyate.
