SOUTH DAKOTA - The South Dakota Advisory Committee to the United States Commission on Civil Rights will release its report, Native American in South Dakota: An Erosion of Confidence in the Justice System, at a press conference on Tuesday, March 28, 2000, in Sioux Falls, SD.The 42 page report summarizes information gathered by the advisory committee at its forum held on December 6, 1999 in Rapid City and contains a statement of "Concerns, Conclusions and Recommendations."
The document was formally submitted to the United States Commission on Civil Rights, which accepted it by a unanimous vote. The press conference will be held at the Sioux Falls Convention Center, 1201 North West Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD 57104, 605-339-7854, beginning at 10:00 am.
The press conference is open to the public and limited copies of the report will be available for distribution. The complete text will also be available on the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights Internet site.
After March 28, individual copies can be obtained free from the Publications Office, US Commission on Civil Rights, 624 Ninth Street, NW, Room 600, Washington, D.C. 20425
