CHICAGO - Christian Peacemaker Teams is recruiting participants for our upcoming peacemaking delegations to the Middle East and Chiapas, Mexico. In the Middle East, talk of peace has brought no peace to Palestinians who still face confiscation of their lands and demolition of their homes by Israeli authorities. In Chiapas, indigenous people live under conditions of occupation by the Mexican military. Contact the Chicago office TODAY to join the May teams. The following delegations are scheduled for the coming months:
To the Middle East: May 26-June 8, July 21-August 3, and November 14-27, 2000.
Teams will meet with Israeli and Palestinian peace and human rights workers and then join with CPT's long-term team in Hebron to document cases of Palestinian families whose homes and land are threatened with demolition or confiscation by Israeli authorities. Cost is $1700 US.
Chiapas, Mexico: May 18-30, July 13-25, and November 17-29, 2000.
Delegates will learn about issues of injustice underlying the conflict in this southern Mexican state and meet with villagers facing ongoing violence and harassment from soldiers and paramilitary groups. Cost is $1000 US.
CPT is a faith-based group that seeks participants for all delegations who are interested in human rights work, committed to nonviolence, and willing to participate in team worship and reflection. The delegation experience usually culminates in a nonviolent public witness that challenges structural violence. Delegates should have plans to share about the trip upon return to their home communities and congregations.
Cost covers round-trip airfare from a designated U.S. or Canadian city, all on-ground travel, two meals a day, simple accommodations, and all honorariums and delegation fees. For more information or to apply, contact CPT at the address below, or visit CPT's website.
