DEMING, New Mexico, Feb. 22 - Today the Fort Sill Apache Tribe
announced that it successfully held a job fair for hundreds of working
families throughout southern New Mexico. Recognizing that new, high
paying jobs are essential to moving New Mexico's economy forward tribal
leaders and local officials were overwhelmed by the successful turnout last
weekend in Deming.
Over four hundred people attended a job fair held by the Fort Sill Apache Tribe on February 16 in Deming, New Mexico for their planned Apache Casino at Akela Flats. "We are delighted by the number of great people that attended and by their enthusiasm for our project," said Tribal Chairman Jeff Houser. "We are also thankful for the help we received from the Deming Chamber of Commerce, the New Mexico Labor Department, and the State of New Mexico Public Education Department." The tribe is working with the National Indian Gaming Commission on regulatory issues related to the project and expects to open the casino in March. According to Chairman Houser, "We are confident that we will receive the necessary approvals and we are excited about returning to our homelands. We look forward to joining Governor Richardson's "Invest in New Mexico" initiative and working along side the Governor to build a stronger economy and a better quality of life for all New Mexicans right here in southern New Mexico." |
