AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS
We are planning to have a demonstration in Amsterdam on Feb. 6th. We are planning to walk from downtown Amsterdam (de Dam) to the US Consulate. As soon as I have details I will let you know.

In Amsterdam there will be a "Free Leonard Peltier-march" through a crowded city. The march starts at 12.00 pm at the Central Station and will end at the American Consulate at the Museumplein. People will carry large banners and hand out information on the Leonard Peltier case. Native Americans from Suriname (South America) and North America will participate. At the end of the march ,around 02.00 pm, there will be a short vigil in front of the Consulate. Wouter van Oorschot, a well known publisher in the Netherlands and Bruce Gurwitz, brother of the late Lew Gurwitz, will address the people. The documentary "Incident at Oglala" will be shown in a cinema theater nearby the U.S. Consulate after the demonstration.

Feb. 6, 1999 - afternoon - Wake at U.S. Embassy or protest action at international airport Zaventem (depends on how many people will come). We're also checking how many people would participate in a 48-hour hunger fast. And the petition drive has been increased via email and hopefully before February 6th via a new website (since our Internet Coordinator is having summer vacation - he lives in Australia - and complains he's bored, I'm sure the page will be finished this week... smile) More details will follow later.

The French CNT-AIT will organize a demonstration in Paris the 6th of February in solidarity with Leonard Peltier and Mumia Abu Jamal. There will be a gathering to show support with Leonard and Mumia starting from 2pm on Saturday 6th of February in front of the US Embassy, Place de la Concorde, Metro:Concorde, Paris. Sylvain will be there and will give a speech on behalf of Leonard.

We are living in a very small city and are very few people, but we already did a lot of flyers and petitions that we pass around, but we need to know if any other groups will do something in our aera, etc. so we could try and do something "bigger"... People around the country are encouraged to write letters for and to Leonard Peltier and other political prisons. ABC will produce a leaflet about oppression of indigenious people in US, to be used during year 1999 at actions for U.S. indigenious peoples.

IRUNEA - PAMPLONA, SPAIN
We have received the e-mail with the event that LPSG will do next February 6th all over the world. We will make a video projection together with A.I. and a group that is figting for Mumia and against the dead penalty. After the projection there will be a conference explaining the cases of Peltier and Mumia. We also will "cath" signatures. This events will be Febrary 4th due the impossibility to get a local for the February 6th. We hope this circunstance don't be an inconvenience.

IN THE SPIRIT OF CRAZY HORSE Yes, the event will be in Iruñea-Pamplona, exactly in a local were young people goes to spend is time learning crafts (ceramic, leather, serigraphy, etc), read or speak apart from the bars. There is also a vegetarian restaurant and rooms for to give conferences, show videos, etc. This is a closed fronton (a place to play the Basque-ball like in the Miami Jai Alai) that was "squatted" by the people of the Irunea-Pamplona's "old town" (the oldest neighborhood of the city) four years ago. It was a fight of the people against police and City Council.

Everyone is invited to attend the Toronto protest. The lpdc toronto chapter will be having a Sunrise Ceremony followed by a Pipe Ceremony and a breakfast on Friday February 5th, 1999, at Anishnawbe Health Toronto, located at 225 Queen St. E. Sunrise Ceremony will begin at 6 am. I will also be doing a three day fast beginning on Feb. 3rd and ending on Feb. 6th. Deb Glidden, my support person will be coming into Toronto from Syracuse where she lives, to offer support to me throughout this fast.

I am in the midst of organizing a vigil to take place outside the US Consulate at noon on Saturday, Feb. 6th. I realize the Consulate will be closed this day since it is a Saturday, but felt it important to do something on Feb. 6th as well.

We have one problem, a location for the Feb. 6/99, event. On Dec. 19/98, we were given the Civic Square. However, Bon Soo - the winter carnival is going on during this time period. All civic facilites are booked as are many church halls and other places. I am asking a faculty member at the local university to book a large room for us. If this fails, we will move our event to Feb. 13/99. However, PEACE magazine is putting a notice in their issue to be on the stands within a few weeks noting the Sault event and giving me as a contact number for more information. Again, our event will emphasize the need to contact the Minister of Justice and Members of Parliament about Leonard and to urge the Justice Minister to release the report on the investigation into the original extradition from Canada to the US. He are putting pressure on our local MP to do something. Other MPs have been contacted and got back to us that they support our efforts for Leonard. We also will be handing out material on the Lubicon case.

The Saskatchewan Coaliton Against Racism (S.C.A.R) is hosting a rally, informational, and petition signing at Dewdney Park. We will make sure people understand what Leonard has gone through, who he is, and learn about the Canadian governments shameful involvement in his case. Petitions will be circulated and sent to the Minister of Justice in Ottawa in regards to the fradulent extradition of Leonard from Canada, a demand for a release of the report on this matter, and a request for Leonard's immediate return to Canada as a free man! We would also like to draw a relationship between Leonard's case and Mumi Abu Jamal and the great union they have formed and the bridges they have created for people of colour. Leonard is not forgotten. Free Leonard Peltier!

Albany, New York: Here are the updated plans for Leonard Peltier Solidarity Committee of the Capital District (Albany, Troy, Schenectady, Saratoga) New York, Feb. 6th action. We are going to gather from 10:00am-11:00am at the Free School, Elm St., Albany, where there will be a speech about Leonard's situation and some music, tables of information, books, etc. At 11:00 we will march through Albany to the Puerto Rican monument Park(also known as Imperialist Park), corner of Lark St. and Washington Ave. There will be a couple of speeches and drumming at the Park and then march back to the Free School for a time of Native American cultural sharing, including music, drumming, films, speeches, and food.

In addition to endorsing the committee's rally and march (we are the Upstate Regional GMB of the IWW) we will be designing a leaflet, getting out hundreds of leaflets, doing a radio show on Feb 4th, advertising on a TV station community bulleting board, getting the word out to social service agencies, putting ads in alternative press/main stream press, and joining the rally/march.

The LPSG, Atlanta is interested in participating in the fast for Leonard Peltier. So far we have around a half dozen people who have committed to fasting for four days, one person following the next. There are many people in the Indian community here that we have not called yet. I'm sure that more will be interested. We're having a meeting this coming Sunday and will know a little more about our commitment afterwards. In the mean time, please send more information, press-releases, guidelines, etc.

I talked to Arthur Miller yesterday and he said his people will be doing twelve day fasts. I'll see if anyone here is willing and able to do that. I look forward to hearing from you.

There will be a 23-hour fast beginning Feb. 6, at the Baltimore American Indian Center at118 S. Broadway. Starting at 12 noon we will have a simple, brown-bag lunch (some very basic luncheon food will be made available by the Homewood and Stony Run Friends 'Indian Affairs Committee', who are sponsoring the event) at the BAIC headquarters, and at 1pm we will begin our fast - one hour for each of the 23 years Leonard has been a political prisoner. We will break our fast on Feb. 7. At Homewood they will break at 9:30AM, due to a previously scheduled pancake breakfast. At Stony Run, we will break our fast at simple lunch, which immediately follows our 11AM Meeting for Worship. Participants are welcome to join the Quaker meetings, or may end their fast in any way they deem appropriate.

It was erroneously mentioned that there will be Mayoral candidates present for the event at BAIC. BAIC has requested we NOT have any politicizing at this time, and to honor their generosity in offering their HQ building for our kick-off event, we have therefore cancelled the invitation to the Mayoral Candidates.

I went to the meeting of the local Amnesty Chapter tonight to try and get some last minute support, I should have gone before tonight but that's another matter. I am happy to say that they were very enthusiatic about it and we should have a decent sized protest in State College PA. From Milwaukee-planned march and rally for Leonard Peltier Feb. 6 The plans for Feb. 6th go well, I went to the board meeting at the Riverwest Art Center on wed. night and made sure that we'd have that space on the sixth. So far the plans are to meet in Gordon Park (Humboldt and Locust) at 1:00pm, and march to the Riverwest Art Center (Fratney and Auer) for speakers, food by Food Not Bombs, and afterwards a video showing of a movie called "Lakota Woman" which is highly accurate portrayal of the wounded knee incident. I have about 100 flyers left, and will be flyering this weekend along the route of the march, and in several places. I'll also be contacting several other students from UWM, one of whom knows a great deal on Peltier, the other on the Puerto Rican political prisoners, and asking them to speak along with myself on the 6th. What i need is help spreading the word--getting people to make concrete commitments to be there, and then getting those people to do the same. Please tell everyone with AJRC, as I know they will support this action. Attached to this email is a .jpg image of the flyer that I came up with for the march. It'd be great for someone else to copy them and distribute them at places that I don't go to often. Thanks for your help fellow worker, it deffinately makes a difference.

Feb. 6th is the twenty-fourth anniversary of Peltier's illegal extradition from Canada and falsely conviction. Peltier's jaw continues to cause him agony as he can eat only soft food through a straw. Documents released under the Freedom of Information Act point to a US government covert program against the American Indian Movement, but a full Senate Oversight Investigation is needed to expose the real killers and clear his name.

My name is Roberta Salyers and I am trying to organize a demonstration (rally or candlelight vigil) at Mississippi State University (in Starkville) to mark Leonard's 23rd year in prison on the 6th of February. There are no Native American student organizations on campus, but I know that a large population of Choctaw live in Mississippi. As I have only lived here a little over a year, I do not have any contacts in the community. Could you provide me with names and numbers of other activists in the area who might be willing to come to such an event and perhaps perform a cleansing ritual or provide drums? In the past, you put me in contact with John Green, ironically another graduate student in my department. He had, however, already given up and has since moved away.

On February 6th supporters of Native American Political Prisoner Leonard Peltier will be holding protests and starting hunger strikes in an effort to pressure the Clinton Administration to keep its 1992 campaign promise. Tomorrow, Saturday, February 6, 1999, at 11:00 am ET. There will be a gathering in Chattanooga TN in front of the Federal Building downtown (just east of Miller Park) to protest the continued political imprisonment of Native American Leonard Peltier.

It's also a fast day, so if you're planning to come or stay at home, please give up your morning and noon meals and encourage others to remember the injustice and suffering of political prisoners.

Remember that in large part Peltier's imprisonment is due to former FBI Special Agent in Charge now-TVA's local boy Norman A. Zigrossi, TVA's Chief Administrative Officer & Executive Vice President, Business Services.

Make a sign to carry, bring it, bring chains to wear and drag. Read up on his situation in case you get asked. See you there.

Rally and march for THE FREEDOM OF LEONARD PELTIER
FROM 1:00 PM TO 3:00 PM

The action will begin at 1pm with a march from the Phoenix Center to the Courthouse on the corner of Saginaw and Huron, where there will be a free speech action. Everyone who wishes to will be given three minutes to say their peace. There will be petitions to the Bureau of Prisons, information on how people can contact the president regarding Leonard's clemency petition, and other officials concerning Leonard's case and the injustices which took place on Pine Ridge Reservation.

This rally will also commence the local phase of the LEONARD PELTIER SOLIDARITY FAST/HUNGER STRIKE, which will continue until Leonard is receiving treatment in the Mayo Clinic. Everyone is encouraged to fast for the day and add their names to a list of day fasters. However, please come along even if you can't fast for the day.

For those who aren't fasting, warm refreshments will be available at the Vegetarian Grocer, where everyone is invited to step in out of the cold.

If you have a drum, please bring it.

Directions: Whichever way you come from, get onto M-59 (Huron St.) and follow the signs into town. The Phoenix Center is at the south end of Saginaw. There will be a rally for Leonard Peltier on Feb. 6th in the city of Pontiac, Michigan. The rally will take place from 1-3pm, in front of the city building on the corner of Saginaw and Huron. There will be an invocation, speeches, a discussion of the solidarity fast, and drumming. Hot herbal tea will be available at the Vegetarian Grocer which is just down the street (URL: http://www.vgkids.com). Afterwards, there will be a meeting to discuss a tour of college campuses in this state, and also to discuss future actions.
