It’s almost time again to tee off at the annual Cherokee National Holiday golf tournament. Many players come back to Tahlequah year after year over the Labor Day weekend to enjoy one of the Cherokee National Holiday’s longest running events. The tournament will begin Friday, September 4, at 8 a.m. with a four-person scramble, and continues on Saturday, September 5, at 8 a.m. with a two-person scramble, finishing Sunday, September 6, with individual stroke play that starts at 8 a.m. It will be held at the Cherokee Trails golf course located next to Sequoyah Schools. Entry deadline for all events will be Friday, September 4 by 7:30 a.m.; no late entries will be accepted after that time. Tournament entry fee for players with a Cherokee Trails course membership will be $40, and will be $50 for others. All entries must be called in to the Cherokee Trails Pro Shop. The Cherokee National Holiday has been held since 1953 to commemorate the anniversary of the signing of the 1839 Cherokee Constitution. With its exciting array of entertainment, cultural and athletic events, it has grown into one of the largest festivals in Oklahoma, attracting more than 90,000 visitors from across the world. This year’s theme is elohi nusdidanv degadelaquasgesdi (“I learn from all that I observe”), reflecting the Cherokee Nation’s long held belief in education as a means to uplift individuals and their communities. The 57th Cherokee National Holiday is a smoke-free event. For more information about the Cherokee National Holiday, please call 918-453-5536 or visit http://holiday.cherokee.org.
