"Newschannel 8’s Ruben Diaz will be in Tahlequah Saturday night as part of a special “Date with Diaz” promotion at Sequoyah Schools. Proceeds will go to fund the Sequoyah Schools’ junior-
senior prom."
TAHLEQUAH, Oklahoma — Five lucky winners will receive a Valentine’s Day date with Oklahoma's Newschannel 8’s Ruben Diaz, as part of a fundraiser for the Sequoyah Schools’ junior class. They are selling chances to win a special “Date with Diaz.” The date will include tickets to the Sequoyah Schools’ basketball game on Saturday, February 14, a pizza meal and the company of the Tulsa-based television anchor.

“He’s been to a lot of our games and we know that a lot of people recognize him and would want to meet him,” said Lindsey Hammer, president of the junior class. “He’s really funny and he’s a nice guy.”

Diaz joined the Newschannel 8 team in 1999 and has served in various positions at the station such as the 8 On Your Side producer, special projects producer, and weekend sports anchor. Diaz can currently be seen in the evenings, either reporting on local sports or anchoring one of the newscasts. He also serves as a co-host of the show, “You Make the Call," on Sunday nights.

Tickets for a chance to win a “Date with Diaz” are $1 each and can be purchased from any member of the Sequoyah Schools’ junior class, or from class sponsor Brandi Adair. Proceeds will go to fund the Sequoyah Schools’ junior-senior prom. Tickets will also be sold during the Sequoyah Schools’ home basketball game on February 13, with the winner announced at that game.

For more information or to purchase a ticket, contact Adair by e-mail: brandi-adair@cherokee.org.
