Tommy Wildcat, an accomplished Cherokee recording artist, will present “Traditional Cherokee Music and Dance” during the next installment of the Cherokee Nation’s monthly history presentation. Wildcat will discuss Cherokee music and will also demonstrate some of that music on a variety of handcrafted traditional flutes on Thursday, August 20, at 10:30 a.m. in the Cherokee Nation’s Tribal Council Chambers. Wildcat’s musical performances and credits include the film industry, television and numerous appearances across the U.S. and in Europe. His work has been featured in soundtracks that range from the Discovery Channel’s “How the West Was Lost” to Turner Network Television’s movie “Tecumseh, the Last Warrior.” He often performs on flutes that he has fashioned himself from local river cane and has been a featured performer several times at the famed New Orleans Jazz Festival. In 2002, he was named the Native American Music Awards’ Flutist of the Year. Currently Wildcat serves as the supervisor of the Ancient Village living history exhibit located on the grounds of the Cherokee Heritage Center at Park Hill. The presentation is free and open to the public. Time will be allowed for questions after the presentation.
