This summer Cherokee Nation will once again offer a great opportunity for young Native Americans to gain valuable job experience. Applications are now being taken for the tribe’s annual Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP).

The Cherokee Nation Career Services group is extending applications to young tribal citizens residing within the Nation’s 14-county jurisdictional service area to take part in SYEP, which will run this year from June 1 through July 31. Applicants must be a citizen of a federally recognized tribe, meet income eligibility criteria, and be between the ages of 14 and 21. Positions are paid positions and a wide variety of job experiences are available, both through Cherokee Nation and at some participating area businesses.

Applicants ages 16-21 will be given priority for employment placement and applicants ages 14 and 15 will be given priority to participate in Educational Enhancement. Applicants 17 years of age and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian when applying.

Applications are available at all area Cherokee Nation offices. Applications must be completed and submitted by April 30. For more information regarding SYEP, or to locate an office near you, please call 918-453-5348.
