TAHLEQUAH, OK - The Cherokee Nation recently provided $24,000 to
Help-In-Crisis, an agency that offers support to victims of domestic
violence and sexual assault.
“A goal of the Cherokee Nation is to be a good partner to our Oklahoma communities,” said Chad Smith, Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation. “The gift presented to Help-In-Crisis is a wonderful opportunity for us to help another organization that works to provide services to individuals and communities in need.” Help-In-Crisis is a non-profit organization with a mission to eliminate domestic violence, child abuse and sexual assault through advocacy, education, counseling and prevention services. The group operates a crisis hotline, a women’s shelter, court advocacy, women’s counseling and education, a home visit program to promote positive parenting, intervention services and a children’s advocacy center. The center plans to use the funds to help with shelter expenses and educational resources. “We appreciate this generous gift from the Cherokee Nation,” said Deana Franke, Help-In-Crisis Executive Director. “This funding will assist our organization in helping many area victims of sexual and domestic violence.” |
