TAHLEQUAH, Oklahoma – For the third year in a row, the Sequoyah Schools
basketball teams will open a local NBA Developmental league game in
Tulsa. The Sequoyah girls’ game against Victory Christian on February 1
will tip-off at 3 p.m., prior to the 66ERS home game against the Rio
Grande Vipers at the Expo Square Pavilion, and the boys’ game will
tip-off immediately following at 5 p.m.
“It’s a great experience for our kids to be able to play in a venue such as this,” said Sequoyah athletic director, Larry Grigg. “It really helps to get them ready for the next step of the season, play-offs.” The Tulsa 66ERS and Community Care have teamed up to present the Tulsa 66ERS High School Series, in which six area high school basketball teams will have the opportunity to play prior to the 66ERS at Expo Square. Participating teams this year include Sequoyah, McLain, Booker T. Washington, Victory Christian, Pawnee and Hominy. “I am so excited about the opportunity to be a part of an organization that will host so many great athletes,” said Jono Helmerich, 66ERS team president. “Thank you to the schools for participating in this event.” Advance tickets are currently on sale now at Sequoyah by contacting Tera Shows, phone: 918-453-5542 or can be purchased by calling the Expo Square Box Office, phone: 918-376-6000 or go to Tulsa 66ers online. Ticket prices are $10 for everyone and include admission to the 66ERS game immediately following the high school game. Sequoyah Schools, a boarding school for Native American students, originated in 1871 as an orphan asylum to care for children who were orphaned by the Civil War. Now known as Sequoyah Schools, it is named for Sequoyah, the scholar who developed the Cherokee syllabary. It is regionally and state accredited for grades 7-12 and has become the school of choice for more than 400 high school students every year. Sequoyah operated by the Cherokee Nation and is located five miles southwest of Tahlequah, Oklahoma For more information call 918-453-5400. |
