“This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year,” said Bonnie Griffin, Sequoyah cheerleading coach. “It’s definitely the fundraiser that is the most fun. The squad gets the opportunity to teach to younger kids and the younger kids learn from cheerleaders that they see perform at ballgames. It’s a lot of fun for everyone.” The fee for the clinic is $30 per participant. Participants will receive a t-shirt for attending and will receive free admission to the February 7 basketball game when wearing their shirt. The deadline for registration is February 1. For information or to receive an application contact Bonnie Griffin by phone: 918-453-5400 or by e-mail, or contact Tera Shows by phone: 918-453-5542 or by e-mail. Sequoyah Schools, a boarding school for Native American students located near Tahlequah, Okla., originated in 1871 as an orphan asylum to care for children who were orphaned by the Civil War. Now operated by the Cherokee Nation and known as Sequoyah Schools, it is named for Sequoyah, the scholar who developed the Cherokee syllabary. It is regionally and state accredited for grades 7-12 and has become the school of choice for more than 400 high school students every year. For more information call 918-453-5400. |
