"the People's Paths!" Cherokee News Path - HACN Taking Homeownership Applications

TAHLEQUAH, Oklahoma - The Housing Authority of the Cherokee Nation is opening the home ownership waiting list in Wagoner County for the Norwood Addition. The first 10 complete applications will be accepted. The head of the household or spouse must be a Cherokee tribal citizen.

This list will only be used to fill Mutual Help or Rural Rental houses that have been received through assignment or court proceedings. The only home ownership programs that are being administered at this time are the Mortgage Assistance Program and the Housing Mortgage Program (assumable mortgage).

The waiting list will open at 9 a.m., Thursday, January 24, 2008, and will remain open until ten applications are accepted. Applications can be made at the Housing Authority office in Tahlequah, located at 110 McSpadden Court.

Applicants are encouraged to bring the following items to be submitted with the application: Cherokee Nation citizenship card, Social Security card for each person in the household, a copy of a driver’s license or state issued identification for each person 18 years of age or older, copies of marriage license/divorce decree, proof of income for all people who will be listed as living in the household and any award letter to verify SSA, SSI, or VA letters must be dated within 120 days.
