PARK HILL, Oklahoma - The Cherokee Heritage Center is seeking entries
for the 2008 Trail of Tears Art Show and Sale. Now in its 37th year,
this show provides an established venue to showcase art with a Native
theme or subject matter. The show opens May 3 and runs through May 26.
Sponsored by Bank of Oklahoma and the Cherokee Nation, artists from across the country will compete for the $1,500 grand prize award and more than $10,000 in total prize money. Categories for this year’s show include Basketry, Pottery, Painting, Graphics, Sculpture, Miniatures and the annual “Trail of Tears” theme. Photographs of artwork must be received no later than 5 p.m. on March 31 through email at totas@cherokeeheritage.org or through regular mail on CD. Photographs must be of the actual entry and must be submitted in digital form. Accepted artwork will be posted on the Cherokee Heritage Center’s (CHC) web site on April 8. Award winning artwork will be announced at the Trail of Tears Art Show awards reception on May 3 at 12 p.m. at the Cherokee Heritage Center. Winners will receive ribbons and a cash award at that time. The Cherokee Heritage Center, located three miles south of Tahlequah at Park Hill, is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. To receive a detailed copy of the official rules and instructions send an email to totas@cherokeeheritage.org.
