PARK HILL, Oklahoma – The Cherokee Heritage Center is offering a
two-day class in flute making on Friday, March 7, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.,
and Saturday, March 8, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Join flute maker John
Suttles, as he teaches this creative art form using tree branches
instead of lumber, and hand tools instead of power tools.
In this hands-on class, Mr. Suttles will take students on a journey to explore the history, techniques and materials used for the traditional technique of wooden flute making. Materials are provided; however, students are welcome to bring their own tools. The class is part of a series of cultural classes offered by the Cherokee Heritage Center. Additional classes planned for spring 2008 include pottery, finger weaving, flint knapping and wood carving. Contact the Cherokee Heritage Center for the complete schedule. Pre-registration is recommended due to limited seating. The $65 fee includes tuition and materials. For more information or to register, contact the Cherokee Heritage Center’s Education Department, phone: 918-456-6007 or by e-mail: education@cherokeeheritage.org, or visit the Cherokee Heritage Center (CHC) web site. |
