TAHLEQUAH, Oklahoma - The Cherokee Nation is offering GED
preparation classes in several locations in the tribe’s 14-county
jurisdictional area.
The classes are sponsored by Cherokee Nation Career Literacy Center and are available to Native Americans who have not completed high school and need to obtain their GED. The mission of the Literacy Center is to promote a supportive, effective and culturally-enriched environment that will enhance our tribal communities by assisting individuals in becoming effective and independent lifelong learners. The Career Literacy/Adult Education Center promotes individualized instruction that allows participants to work at one’s own pace. The program is open entry/exit and is available anytime during the class cycle that runs from September through May. Participants must present a state photo I.D. and a copy of their social security card, and have a CDIB card. The center also offers TABE assessment, provides free classroom materials and assistance with GED test fees if participant meets eligibility requirements.
