STILWELL, OK - The Cherokee Nation will be hosting a meeting to
promote a safe and drug free community on Thursday, November
15 at 6 p.m. in the Ozarks Electric conference room on Hwy 51
in Stilwell.
The meeting will focus on an overview of the Cherokee Nation Anti-Meth Coalition and the community’s anti-drug network. Plans will be made for a future town hall style meeting as well as a question and answer session with tribal health officials on how the community can help curb drug use among community members. “The desire of the Cherokee Nation is to give the community the tools they need to create a better environment with less alcohol and drug abuse,” said Dr. Andrea Dudley, assistant director of the tribe’s Anti-Meth Coalition. Research has shown that community coalitions offer residents a better understanding of issues facing the community. The group can then plan programs to coordinate anti-drug efforts and offer a comprehensive approach to substance abuse. The event is free and open to the public.
